Grechko Andrey

Andrey Vyacheslavovich Grechko (born 1975 in Moscow) is a Russian scientist and healthcare organizer, MD, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Director of the Federal Scientific and Clinical Center for Intensive Care and Rehabilitation. His professional and scientific interests are related to medical and social rehabilitation and medical and social expertise, as well as the development of modern approaches to neurorehabilitation of intensive care patients.
He received his basic medical education with honors, graduating in 1998 from the Moscow State Medical and Dental University with a degree in medicine (qualification ‑ doctor). The interdisciplinary nature of his training is complemented by legal education (Law Institute of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, 2001, specialty “jurisprudence”, qualification — lawyer) and psychological education (Golitsyn Border Institute of the FSB of Russia, 2009, specialty “psychology”, qualification — psychologist). The degree of Doctor of Medical Sciences was awarded in 2004. In 2019, he was elected a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences with a degree in medical and social rehabilitation and medical and social expertise, and in 2025, he became an academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
A.V. Grechko is the author of 390 scientific papers, including 18 monographs and 28 patents; after being elected a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, more than 200 works have been published, including 12 monographs and 23 patents, as well as certificates for computer programs and a database. His scientific results are primarily related to the development of step‑by-step neurorehabilitation of intensive care patients with severe brain damage who need long-term prosthetics of vital functions: an innovative national system has been developed and implemented, focused on reducing mortality and proven cost-effectiveness. A separate area of work is the early medical and social rehabilitation of patients with severe brain damage, including military veterans and those injured in the war zone. Also, under his leadership and with his participation, new methods of treatment and rehabilitation (including organoprotective approaches, phage prevention and phage therapy technologies, methods of invasive neurorehabilitation) have been developed based on the study of general pathological mechanisms of the formation of chronic critical conditions.
In scientific, pedagogical and expert activities, A.V. Grechko heads the Department of Medical and Social Expertise and Medical and Social Rehabilitation of the Russian State Pedagogical University, is a member of the dissertation council, manages candidate’s dissertations and advises doctoral research. He participates in the editorial boards of several scientific medical journals, is a member of the Presidium of the Union of Rehabilitologists of Russia, is a member of professional associations of anesthesiologists and resuscitators and an expert of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
