Annotation:

Institute of prosthetics and orthotics is a structural subdivision of the Federal State budgetary institution “Federal scientific centre of rehabilitation of disabled n.a. G.A. Albrecht” Ministry of Labour and Social protection of the Russian Federation had previously called the Scientific research Institute of prosthetics. The Institute is the first institution of the national prosthetic and orthopedic industry, the main element of the state system of organization of prosthetic and orthopedic care for the disabled. Two decades after its foundation, it remained the only scientific, medical and industrial institution in the country for the medical and social rehabilitation of persons with disabilities. The Institute was intensively engaged in the most difficult section of prosthetics – the problem of supplying disabled people with prostheses of the upper extremities. Created the first domestic samples of the active, mechanical prostheses, with a traction control system for the disabled after the amputation of both upper limbs at shoulder level and the isolation of the shoulder, as well as the so-called working devices was the impetus for the transition to functional prosthetics.
Within the walls of the Institute formed the scientific and technical base of the new medical discipline – the first work on the scientific justification of clinical, technical and biomechanical foundations of prosthetics, formed the first domestic school of prosthetics, created the design of cosmetic, functional, active and therapeutic and training prostheses, developed a system of conservative and rapid preparation for prosthetics, laid the scientific foundations of children’s prosthetics, developed a scientific basis for the construction of orthopedic shoes and functional aesthetic clothing for the disabled.
Today, the Institute of prosthetics and orthotics solves the problems associated with the development and implementation of unique innovative digital technologies of prosthetics, orthotics and prosthesis designing.
