Shvedovchenko Igor
Shvedovchenko Igor Vladimirovich, MD, Professor.
He is a Scientific Supervisor of Federal State Budgetary Institution “Federal Scientific Centre of Rehabilitation of the Disabled named after G.A. Albrecht” of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the Russian Federation. He is a Leading specialist of Russia in orthopedics and traumatology, reconstructive plastic surgery and microsurgery for children, one of the leading experts in reconstructive plastic surgery and microsurgery for children in the world.
In 1972, he graduated from the Leningrad Pediatric Medical Institute (St. Petersburg Pediatric Medical University). From 1976 to 1999, he worked in Federal State Budgetary Institution the Turner Scientific Research Institute for Children’s Orthopedics under the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation as Head of the Department of Surgery and Microsurgery of a hand. Then he worked as senior, leading Researcher, Deputy Director of scientific work. He developed and implemented the technology of many reconstructive plastic and microsurgical operations for diseases of the musculoskeletal system of children.
In 1993 he defended his thesis for the degree of Doctor of Medicine in the specialty “Traumatology and Orthopedics”, on the topic “Congenital underdevelopment of the hand in children.”
From 1999 to March 2017, he was in charge of Federal State Budgetary Institution “Federal Scientific Centre of Rehabilitation of the Disabled named after G.A. Albrecht” of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the Russian Federation. He is a Scientific Supervisor of the Centre from March 2017.
He is an author of 50 patents, more than 600 scientific publications, including chapters of three national guidelines on orthopedics and multivolume student’s books on traumatology and orthopedics, more than 200 original articles in leading journals in Russia and foreign sources. I.V. Shvedovchenko was supervisor of 4 doctoral and 14 Ph.D. theses.
He is a member of the Association of Orthopedic and Traumatology of Russia, a member of the International Society of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology (SICOT). He is a member of the Russian Society of Hand Surgeons, the Federation of European Societies for Surgery of the Hand (FESSH), the International Federation of Societies for Surgery of the hand (IFSSH). He has repeatedly participated at European and World congresses as an invited speaker.
